Expelled and Lord Save Us From Your Followers

I came across a couple of movies this weekend.

One is Ben Stein’s Expelled, which researches why science does everything it can to shut down any argument against Darwinism.

This is really interesting as it points out that we have Freedom of Speech but why is opposing ideas and speech not tolerated in the scientific community. People have lost their jobs, and been ridiculed and denied tenure for even showing contrary evidence.

The other one is called Lord Save Us From Your Followers

This movie is done in the style of documentary such as SuperSize Me and seeks to explore not only how the world views Christians and not only how Christians view the world or themselves. This movie sets out to open a conversation. Would be interesting to be in an open discussion where both sides can say what they want without taking/making offense from the other.

Both sites have mega trailers and stuff to check out.

Later.

Return of the Ghostbusters

http://www.returnoftheghostbusters.com/

The mile high city is rocked when an ancient Egyptian menace comes to town, and the Denver Ghostbusters must return to save the universe once more.  In this sequel to the internet cult hit Freddy VS Ghostbusters, the boys in gray find themselves up to their eyeballs in spooks, as a greater threat looms on the horizon…

A talented cast and crew made up entirely of volunteers (see also: fanatics) worked over the internet and across borders for over two years.  Featuring dazzling special effects, an original score, and an engaging story inhabited by quirky characters, this feature length film is a truly one of a kind fan made experience.

The Super Heroe movies Hollywood should be making

In my humble opinion, if the fans of these characters can make such good films on a low or no budget then Hollywood ought to be making better films… or at least hire these guys.

Batman – Dead End

World’s Finest

Return of the Ghostbusters

Ghostbuster Generation

Ted Dekker / House

House is Awesome! I finished the book awhile back and can’t wait for the movie. However it’s been pushed back to the beggining of the year next year instead of October. Hopefully this is good news in that it will be a better movie.

From Comics to Movies

Somethings been bugging me lately about some debate over whether superman was a good movie or not and the lackluster X-men 3 movie. And now I think I know what it is.

http://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=1547483&vid=123641

This link to the new commercial for the turtle movie is what I was wanting from the superman and x-men movie. This doesn’t redo the secret origin or even look like it involves the shredder. This is an out of nowhere new story line that seems ripped right from their comic, tv show, or turtle world.

Back to superman, there was nothing really wrong with it, it even paid homage to the comic and the original movies, but it was too cookie cutter. It was a lets reintroduce superman without starting at the beginning which means it was all done to set up the next movie. … But what about this movie?

I liked it but I wanted to really like it. I wanted to like it as much as Justice League. Yes I like the cartoon better than the movie. It has a better story.

What I would’ve done was assume anyone seeing it was familiar with Supes and came up with something new and original. I would’ve put Luthor away for a bit and maybe make him the setup for the next movie.

For this movie, picture an advertisement:

Alien warships invading earth. Cities being destroyed. People panicking and then all of a sudden a loud “Bang” and the first ships blows. Then something rockets to another ship knocking it out of the sky.
People on the ground look up and say, “Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird! Its a plane! It’s superman!”

I don’t know how I would do an entire movie but that’s how I would’ve pitched it. Yeah I know the classic line would be corny so if I were to really fit it in it would go more like:

first Person says, “Look! Up in the sky!”

“It’s a bird” says another guy

“That ain’t no bird! How does a bird take out an alien spaceship?” says another.

Yet another person yells,”It’s a plane”
The first person smiles, “No! It’s superman!”

WHy didn’t I put the second version first? Because if you took the classic line and thought it was cool, despite someone thinking a bird blew up a ship, you can laugh at yourself for not realizing that without the wise crack that it was a little silly.

So then based off of this I would’ve pitted Superman against Brainiac or Darkseid.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Lex Luthor as his main villain, but he was in all the other movies. I want something a little more … different and risky.

And about X3, well now that the dvd was release with a zillion different scenes and like 3 different endings you can now cut and paste your own version together and make it good! Which means you can maybe choose to pick one story or another and stick with it. I think they tried a little to hard to squeeze too much into it.

But before I’m done I want to mention one last thing. I saw a toy of superman while Christmas shopping and it featured a wall of kryptonite in which his action on the box was superman punching it down?

HuH? How does that happen? Doesn’t it make more sense for superman to walk away from the kryptonite and maybe call Batman for assistance? Or maybe, kryptonite doesn’t hurt him at all. Maybe he just says it does to give the criminal the feeling that he actually stands a chance.

Criminal:”I have you now superman!”
Supes:”Yar, kryptonite!”
Supes stands up. Criminal is shocked. Supes walks over and just flicks it out of the criminal’s hand.
Supes:”It doesn’t really hurt, I just like messin with the bad guys”

I know superman wouldn’t really say Yar, and he wouldn’t really punch a wall of kryptonite that’s just standing there either. Even if he could, it wouldn’t make sense. The pieces would scatter and there’d be plenty to go around to every criminal in Metropolis. Even the movie makes the point to say that flying it into space is really the best way, but the next time he does that, he should think about wearing a lead suit or something.

Enough Comic book geek ranting tonight. Have a Merry Christmas.
